When it comes to technology, I think we need to redeem technology for God’s purposes on earth.
Let’s face it… American’s don’t do boring. If you bore ‘em, most will check out and drop out of the service immediately. It is not our job to entertain the congregation, but why not take the opportunity to engage their imaginations? How do we reach ‘em if we do not engage ‘em? I don’t like boring church services.
Jesus was never boring. He used visual illustrations. He said things like, “I am the good Shepherd”, and “I will make you fishers of men”. He talked about farmers, fields and flowers. He said, “Consider the lilies of the field”.
He used visuals to reinforce the Kingdom message. He used loaves and fishes. He drew in the sand. He spit in the dirt, make mud pies, and put ‘em over a blind man’s eyes. That’s pretty creative.
I would like to see us stretch ourselves and see a creative team surface at Sanctuary to step up the creativity of our weekend services. People have God given creative gifts that could help illustrate and reinforce the message. If you are the creative type and have a heart for God, pray about using your creative gifts for God.
I believe that if the Apostle Paul were on the travel circuit today, he would use technology. He would not write his letters on stone or cave walls. He would not travel everywhere by foot. I see him using a blog to communicate his missionary travels. He would stream his messages on the internet. He would fire off pastoral emails to churches. He would text message and maybe even twitter.
MORE REASONS WHY WE ARE MOVING…
1. MORE PARKING! We will have acres of parking! The parking will be convenient!
2. MORE MEETING SPACE! We have more rooms for ministry (9). And more seating capacity – about 600.
3. MORE STORAGE! Our chairs will not have to loaded up on a truck every week, but simply moved into a room adjacent to the main auditorium.
4. EASY ACCESS! We are 90 seconds off the freeway, and once you make the turn, the road has only ONE destination – the church / school. It will be much easier to find us.
Let us PRAY PRAY PRAY that God will transform thousands of lives through this transition Oct. 11′th.
Dave,
Great to see you last week! I appreciate your insightful and keen mind. You are thoughtful, kingdom minded, and progressive in your thinking – that is refreshing. Hope you can visit Sanctuary sometime with Marsha! I would LOVE that!
